Biography

Dr. Birungi has vast experience in training, research, consultancy of development projects in environment and natural resources management. She holds a PhD in environmental toxicology of industrial wastewater and Master of Science in Integrated Water Resources management. She has published articles in peer reviewed journals and contributed to writing books and technical documents.  

Dr. Birungi has supervised various national and international funded projects including World Bank, IIED, UNDP, UNEP and FAO. For example, she was part of the team in the testing of the World Bank toolkit on Poverty- Environmental linkages and mainstreaming drylands into Development Frameworks, UNDP. She also worked as a Consultant under UNDP-UNEP in collaboration with IIED to develop a User guide on tools for environmental mainstreaming. She contributed to the FAO Case Study on Forests, livelihoods and poverty alleviation and sound management of chemicals in national development frameworks. She has also contributed to management of various water and environmental related projects.
