Access to sufficient water and decent sanitation is a basic human right. Today, 2.1 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services and 4.5 billion people lack safely managed sanitation services. Unsafe hygiene practices are widespread, compounding the effects on people’s health. Rapid recovery of access to WASH services is one of a set of actions essential to stabilizing the health of populations and ultimately assisting communities return to a normal existence.
